Aviguard®

Aviguard is a unique freeze-dried preparation of normal intestinal flora that prevents the colonization of harmful bacteria in the gastrointestinal tract of poultry and game birds.

Aviguard contains benign bacteria that occupy all of the ecological niches in the guts of the birds, thus preventing harmful bacteria from becoming established. The “competitive- exclusion” process of the pathogenic bacteria by the bacteria in Aviguard is what makes the product so effective.

Colonization by harmful transient bacteria such as salmonella, Escherichia coli and clostridia can occur in:

  • Day-old chicks, which have very little natural gut flora due to modern breeding conditions, clean hatchery environment as well as separation of the chicks from their parents.

  • Poultry after treatment with antibiotics, which have an imbalance in the normal gut flora

  • Birds that are stressed due to relocation, laying or moulting.

When used as directed in the presence of good environmental conditions and biosecurity principles, Aviguard can restore normal intestinal flora.
